Power analyser supports design of LED drivers
The first product in this context is the PA4000 two-channel power analyser which is intended to complement Tektronix’ existing oscilloscope-based power measurement devices. "We plan to offer solutions for all segments of power electronics, from component characterization to power analysis", explained Peter Bachmayr, Technical Marketing Manager EMEA for Tektronix. In the field of LED lighting, such products are needed in the design and characterization of drivers. "As long as AC LEDs are a side issue in LED Lighting, constant current drivers dominate the market," he said.
The PA4000 excels through its very high exactness, achieved by innovative signal processing algorithms, Bachmayr explained. For the measurement of currents, the analyser employs two different Spiral Shunts per channel – one for currents up to 1A and the other one for currents up to 30A. The device offers a broad range of application-specific operating modes, including standby current, electronic ballasts, and motor drives. It is capable of measuring harmonics up to the 100 harmonic – relevant in switching power supplies.
The measurement results can be transferred for further processing and storage to a computer or other peripherals through interfaces for Ethernet, USB and RS232. Along with the analyser comes a PC software for downloading the measurement results and to log them on a PC.
