The series comprises four variants providing different output voltages generated by a buck converter: 1.1V (TB9045FNG-110); 1.2V (TB9045FNG-120); 1.25V (TB9045FNG-125) and 1.5V (TB9045FNG-150). The four output voltages can be used together with another LDO to supply external MCUs as well as sensors and 5V peripherals.

A buck-boost converter generates stable 6V from the car battery and can operate at input voltages as low as 2.7V to ensure constant voltage even during starting. The devices are suitable for input voltages up to 18V and can be operated in a temperature range of -40 to +125°C. They are delivered in a small HTSSOP48-P-300-0.50 package. With dimensions of only 6.1mm × 12.5mm × 1mm, they are ideal for modern densely populated printed circuit boards.

The TB9045FNG series includes a number of fault detection functions that are important for functional safety. These include overvoltage detection for the DC/DC converter, undervoltage detection (UVLO) for battery supply, thermal shutdown and oscillator frequency monitoring. A watchdog timer detects faults on the external MCU as well as latent faults indicating a possible fault condition. Error messages can be configured via the SPI interface using a special register so that the power ICs can be used flexibly in a variety of systems.

To assist developers, Toshiba provides comprehensive documentation, including FMEDA (Failure Modes, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis) for functional safety that helps with safety design and system analysis.

Series production of the new power ICs is planned for November 2019 with a capacity of around 1 million units per year.
