
Power suppliers for Apple in 2020
Apple has released its supplier list for 2020, with around 15 in the list coming from Europe out of over 200, dominated by China and Taiwan.
The list details where companies have the manufacturing for the parts that are used across the Apple range, so includes mobile phones, earphones, laptops and desktop computers. however it doesn’t detail suppliers of IP such as ARM.
STMicroelectronics delivers parts from its fabs in Catania and Agrate, in Italy as well as Crolles in France, while Robert Bosch in Germany is also a supplier. Infineon power devivces come from Bavaria in Germany as well as Carinthia in Austria. Varta Microbattery in Germany is also a power supplier along with Nexperia and NXP in Eindhoven.
Some European power system suppliers have fallen out of the list, including Irish power supply company Excelsys Technologies which was bought by Advanced Energy of the US since the last list in 2018.
Dialog Semiconductor uses foundries such as TSMC for its power management PMIC chips and so is listed separately, as is Analog Devices and Texas Instruments which also supply power devices. Diodes makes some of the power diodes for Apple at its fab in Manchester UK, while Alpha and Omega supplies power MOSFETs to Apple as does Rohm.
ams supplies its sensors from Styria in Austria while LumiLEDs in Belgium supplies LEDs while AT & S Austria Technologie & Systemtechnik supplies printed circuit boards.
Other notable suppliers include Maxim and its acquirer Analog Devices, II-VI, Knowles for MEMS microphones, Microchip, Micron, Molex, Quorvo, Qualcomm for the wireless modems and TDK.
Materials and chemicals come from Solvay in France, Royal DSM in the Netherlands and Henkel in Bafen-Wuerttemberg as well as SABIC in Saudi Arabia. Renewable packaging comes from Stora Enso in Finland.

Despite the US-China trade war, the number of Chinese companies supplying Apple has risen since the last report, overtaking Taiwanese suppliers. However, almost all the suppliers have Chinese operations, although Singapore Malaysia and Vietnam are increasingly being used in addition.
