PragmatIC Semi signs Intralink for Japan push
UK plastic chip maker PragmatIC Semiconductor has signed a deal with Intralink to scale up business in Japan and Asia.
PragmatIC in Cambridge recently raised $231m to scale up production of its low cost plastic chips in areas such as RFID on 300mm wafers at its fab in Durham.
Pragmatic first intends to bring the benefits of its thermistor and thermocouple technologies to Japanese temperature and fingerprint sensor manufacturers.

Intralink is also tasked with identifying longer-term opportunities to license Pragmatic’s unique manufacturing process to Japanese corporations. The company has also shown the first programmable processors developed in plastic and is suing its sensors to make its own semiconductor fabs more sustainable.
PragmatIC also has a programme for a ‘fab in a box’ for low cost fabs to be installed around the world that could be used in Japan.
“We’re delighted to partner with Intralink as we look to grow our presence in Japan, a key hub of the sensor industry,” said Vincent Barlier, Foundry Product Commercial Director at Pragmatic.
“Intralink’s strong relationships and considerable experience in the market made them a clear choice for us as we look to accelerate our expansion and generate significant revenues in the region,” he said.
