The Taycan is the first fully electric Porsche, and Dräxlmaier has built the 10,000 sq m fully automated site to make the 800V battery modules and assemble further components such as the charging socket to the high-voltage on-board electrical system, as well as components for monitoring and distributing the power and protecting the battery packs. The line also includes the final test capability.
“Mobility of the future is one of the greatest challenges of our time. The automotive industry is undergoing a historic technological change, and electromobility is a major megatrend, ” said Martin Gall, Chief Technology Officer of the Dräxlmaier Group. The group started development in 2009 on storage systems, starting with prototypes battery systems and followed by concept orders for high-voltage batteries in plug-in hybrid vehicles and electric cars from premium brands such as the Taycan.
“Our battery systems help automakers make the mobility of the future even safer, more comfortable and more sustainable,” he said.
“We have a very intensive development phase behind us. All the more, the entire team of the site is now looking forward to the start of series production,” said Sabine Hucke, site manager at Sachsenheim. “Building a location together from the beginning on has made our team very strong. We are still looking for qualified electricians to strengthen our team.”
