Programmable Control Unit opens up wide range of application options
The compact control unit ensures that the interior lighting in passenger cars or commercial vehicles is gently dimmed, or that it acts as a reversing alarm to ensure greater safety in road traffic. Depending on requirements, the microcontroller can be programmed for other applications, vehicle types and, in the future, for example, for the detection of autonomously driving cars.
Thanks to its relay plug-in base housing with 6.3 mm flat plug, the PCU can be used flexibly in various vehicle types. Depending on the application, it can be used, for example, for rotating beacons in construction or rescue vehicles, as a control unit for lifting platforms in commercial vehicles or as a reversing warning device in forklift trucks. With the CAN/LIN variant, the compact unit can also be used as a gateway.
A further possible application is the control of LEDs in outdoor areas, via which autonomous vehicles can communicate with the environment. For example, a car could signal to pedestrians whether it is driving autonomously or whether it is stopping because it has detected pedestrians in front of it by means of the colour or a flashing light. The microcontroller-based solution can be used in a variety of ways with its wide range of equipment variants and software programming adapted to the application. This offers vehicle manufacturers a flexible and cost-effective control unit. In addition, the PCU meets the environmental requirements for indoor areas (IP40) and is validated according to LV 124.
