Thanks to its seven regulated output voltages, a single L5965 can supply power to a complete camera- or radar-based driver assistance system with sensors, memory ICs, a processor and CAN interface circuits. OTP (One-Time Programmable) cells for output voltage setting and sequencing allow flexible configuration of the PMIC for a variety of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and other automotive applications.

The suitability of the L5965 for operation directly on the vehicle electrical system allows it to be used without a separate pre-controller. Furthermore, due to the output voltages programmable via registers, no resistors are required to set the voltages, and the regulators integrated in the chip do not require external compensation circuits. This reduces the need for external components, not only saving space and material costs, but also improving system reliability and accuracy by eliminating environmental variations on external components.

The integrated features for functional safety are designed in accordance with ISO 26262 and enable the systems to meet the requirements up to Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) D. The system’s integrated functional safety features are designed in accordance with ISO 26262. Mechanisms provided include an error status pin, voltage monitors, ground loss comparators, analog and digital BIST (Built-In Self Test) functions, and temperature monitors.

ST is currently ramping up production of the L5965. Samples are available in a small, cost-effective, heat sink-free QFN-48 package measuring 7mm x 7mm.
