Promotion for Kelleher in Intel technology shake up

The re-organization comes after CEO Bob Swan revealed that Intel’s 7nm manufacturing process would not arrive until 2022 or 2023, compared with the previously expected 2021 (see Intel goes foundry for 7nm due to yield issues).

The Technology, Systems Architecture and Client Group is being split up into five smaller teams who will be led by executives who will all report directly to CEO Bob Swan.

Technology development will be led by Ann Kelleher, who was previously head of Intel manufacturing, where she has increased supply capacity during the Covid-19 pandemic and accelerated the ramp of Intel’s 10nm process.

Previous technology development leader Mike Mayberry, will consult and assist Kelleher until his planned retirement at the end of the year. Keyvan Esfarjani, previously in charge of manufacturing for Intel’s non-volatile memory will take over Kelleher’s responsibility for overall manufacturing and operations.

Josh Walden is leading Design Engineering on an interim basis while Intel conducts a search for a permanent appointee. Two other sub-groups – Architecture, Software and Graphics; and Supply Chain will continue to be led by Raja Koduri and Randhir Thakur, respectively.

Thakur’s role as chief supply chain officer is said to have “ever-growing importance” because of the “importance of relationships with key players in the ecosystem.” Players in the ecosystem is an Intel short-hand for foundries and related companies in general and TSMC in particular. Thakur and his team are charged with ensuring supply chain is a competitive advantage for Intel.
