The planned ecosystem of connected services allows PSA, by the way the European OEM with the largest number of connected vehicles already in use, to develop new business opportunities for a broad range of industries, including automotive distribution, smarter cities, logistics and retail. In this scenario, drivers and passengers will be able to benefit from timely and accurate information that improves their safety and comfort while driving. On the other hand, Smart Cities can develop advanced communication services that warns drivers of roadwork, traffic redirections, or congestions almost in real-time.
Both companies will share the responsibilities of developing, selling and marketing of such services that go well beyond today’s connectivity solutions based on smartphone apps and roadside signage. Likewise, the partners will collaborate in implementing and delivering connected services with new and existing clients. According to PSA, these activities are based on the understanding that connected vehicles should be regarded as part of the IoT – and that automotive connectivity is a key factor in the improvement of customer experience for the PSA brands.
The seven-year agreement between PSA and IBM will focus on commercialising services and building next-generation technical solutions that enable such connected services. The services planned will not only help drivers and passengers to improve their orientation in the traffic. Another intention is to help stakeholders to develop new business models and add revenue streams.
