SRVCC is a 3GPP specified feature that enables continuity of service by seamlessly switching to a WCDMA network when a consumer on voice-over-LTE call leaves the LTE network’s coverage area.
The successful LTE-to-WCMDA transfer occurred on Dec. 23, 2011 using a handset based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 application processor that is 3G/LTE multimode capable. Qualcomm plans to repeat the demonstration at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
SRVCC follows on from the launch of circuit-switched fallback (CSFB) technology on smartphones in 2011.
