Qualcomm, J&J partner on connected blood glucose meters
In the agreement, Qualcomm subsidiary Qualcomm Life will provide its medical device connectivity and data management solutions for LifeScan’s OneTouch Verio Flex blood glucose meters and OneTouch Reveal diabetes management web app. Wireless data collection will be provided by Qualcomm Life’s medical-grade, cloud-based 2net platform.
The resulting connectivity capabilities will allow physicians to easily access all of a patient’s blood glucose data from a Bluetooth-enabled Lifescan monitoring system, which wirelessly sends data to the OneTouch Reveal cloud-based application. According to the companies, the streamlined access to a patient’s historical and recent blood glucose levels will help healthcare professionals make more proactive, informed care decisions based on data trends.
“Enabling timely access to blood glucose data generates actionable insights for physicians and patients for more informed diabetes care management,” says Rick Valencia, president of Qualcomm Life. “The secure, wireless data capture that 2net provides is valuable for clinicians as they seek transformative ways to treat people with diabetes efficiently and effectively across the care continuum.”
The 2net solution for connected diabetes care is expected to be available to select physician offices in the Fall of 2017, and to expand globally in 2018.
