Qualcomm Technologies Inc. has said it has agreed to supply Apple with Snapdragon 5G RF modems for smartphones to be launched in 2024, 2025 and 2026.
Qualcomm said that part of the long-term financial planning was that it would have 20 percent share of the chipset supply for the smartphone launch in 2026.
The implication of this is that Qualcomm is preparing for a gradual tapering down of its support for Apple as the company implements its own designs or goes to other parties for 5G technology.
Qualcomm said that global patent license agreement between Apple and Qualcomm, effective as of April 2019, remains unchanged with a six-year term and a two-year option to extend.
