Intelliconnect has tested its high density cryogenic connector for quantum computer systems at the UK’s National Physical Laboratory (NPL) to demonstrate the use of the system for dilution refrigerators.
The Intelliconnect Q-CON connector, launched in July, provides reliable transmission of critical signals at very low temperatures, featuring compact and simple connection up to 24-ways with attenuators available to suppress thermal noise
Q-CON high-density multiway connectors are based around the SMPM interface to meet the needs of large-scale high qubit Quantum machines and provide many more coaxial lines in a given space, simplifying the installation and customisation within a dilution refrigerator.
Typical spacing using SMA connectors is limited to approximately 16mm, whereas the new Q-CON high-density connectors are designed with a pitch of 4.75mm. The SMPM interface provides a simple push to mate connection only requiring a hex key to tighten the two fasteners.

The Q-CON connector components are machined from high purity copper and beryllium copper and are gold plated to provide best thermal conductivity. Non-magnetic versions can also be specified if required. The connectors are compatible with 0.047-inch (1.19mm) size coax, either semi-rigid, flexible or conformable versions are available.
The Q-CON system uses solderless connections for the high-density connectors as well as the traditional SMA, 2.92 and SMP connectors.
Intelliconnect is the largest UK based manufacturer of RF, microwave, waterproof and cryogenic connectors and cable harnesses suitable for applications including quantum computing, medical wearable technology, medical, telecoms, satcoms, military, aerospace, space, general microwave communications, rail traction, oil and gas and marine.
The fast-growing Quantum Computing market has led Intelliconnect to invest in the very specialised connectors, cables and cable assemblies, connectors and adaptors required to work at very low temperatures.
