Racetrack becomes home of robot vehicles
The acquisition will be a key component of the international test network for automated and networked driving, which Dekra is developing in Europe and Asia. “In the first step, we will invest a total of more than 30 million euros in the structure of this test network,” says Stefan Kölbl, Chairman of the Board of Management Dekra e.V. and Dekra SE. “The future issues of automation and connectivity are becoming increasingly important for the safety of mobility,” he said.
Within the scope of project, the racetrack will focus on the development of test systems for all aspects of automated driving. This will be supplemented in the medium term by the topic of connectivity, which is currently located within the Dekra Group at the Malaga site. From there, corresponding test capacities are also built in Klettwitz, the site of the EuroSpeedway Lausitz. “The combination of automation and networking is crucial for future autonomous driving. That is why our customers, especially from the automotive industry, need the necessary testing services from a single source. This can be offered to them by the intensive cooperation of all Dekra sites and business units involved in the future,” said Kölbl.
The formal transfer of ownership is scheduled for mid-November. The racetrack will be available for customers from mid-year 2018 onwards, the certification company said. The move will create some 100 qualified jobs in the structurally underdeveloped region of the racetrack.
