Along with a 5/6 or 10/11 dual modulus prescaler with a frequency range of 4 GHz or 5 GHz, respectively, the PE97640 integrates counters, a delta-sigma modulator, phase comparator, and charge pump. Phase noise figure-of-merit is -225 dBc/Hz with a 10/11 prescaler and -255 dBc/Hz with a 5/6 prescaler. Flicker figure-of-merit is -259 dBc/Hz with the 10/11 prescaler and -265 dBc/Hz with the 5/6 prescaler. Counter values are programmable through either a serial interface or directly hard-wired.

Intended for commercial applications and able to perform under harsh space conditions for over 10 years, the PE97640 is radiation-tolerant to 100 kRad (Si) total dose and immune to single-event latch-up. The PLL, which comes in a 64-lead CQFP, consumes 80 mA at 2.8V, enabling RF system engineers to better allocate power resources.
