The system combines a configurable electronic control unit with a telematics interface. It makes measurement and diagnosis data from electric cars available, enabling systems designers to utilise it as data hub for applications and services. Since under the project ELISE also privacy-compliant concepts for vehicle-based data sharing have been devised, users can always keep control of their data while benefiting from external and internal services.

The autonomous charging unit also developed under the ELISE project can adjust the charging parameters to varying charging infrastructures and thus can be utilised with all existing systems. In addition, it can turn the electric vehicle into an energy supplier by feeding back the energy stored into the grid in cases when the demand in the grid is high.

In the first phase, the researchers in the ELISE project developed communications concepts and standards. In the next step, these findings have been implemented as an electronic system with associated control software. This demonstrator served to exchange data sets with electric vehicles and to feed in and feed out energy. Extensive trials in the field and on test stands concluded the development, resulting in a flexible, modular platform that can be used to develop products and services and adapt them to future application cases.

ELISE stands for Autonomous Charging Unit and Systems-integrated Data Gateway for Electric Vehicles. While the KIT was responsible for model-based interdisciplinary systems development and validation. Project partners included RA Consulting GmbH and CarMediaLab GmbH, both based in Karlsruhe. The project has been funded in part by the German federal ministry of research (BMBF) with an amount of € 680.000
