XCP, a protocol standardised by [multi-company, predominantly German consortium] ASAM, enables flexible read and write access to memory contents in the ECU. The authors describe the layout of the A2L file and how to create it for an XCP Slave, they also discuss various measurement and calibration concepts. The book offers detailed explanations of how the standard is used in different use areas such as software-in-the-loop, rapid prototyping, bypassing and in virtual ECUs. Based on a sample XCP implementation, the authors illustrate the fundamental mechanisms that must be considered in the software code.
