Renault CEO steps down suddenly

Luca de Meo, CEO of the Renault Group, is to step down in a month after five years in the role.
This follows several other high profile CEOs that have stepped down in the automotive downturn, including Carlos de Tavares at Stellantis, Wayne Griffiths at Seat and Cupra, Peter Rawlinson at Lucid and Michael Leiters at McLaren Automotive. Kurt Sievers, CEO at automotive chip supplier NXP Semiconductor is also stepping down
From July 15th, De Meo will step down to ‘pursue new challenges outside the automotive sector’. The move is unexpected, and the board has initiated the process of appointing a new Chief Executive Officer based on the already defined succession plan.
De Meo recently completed the re-negotiation of Renault’s deal with Nissan following the latter’s failed merger with Honda.
