Renault, previously known above all for canny, economical small cars with thoroughly conventional drive systems, has announced to pay more attention to sustainability in the future. Eight pure electric vehicles and 12 hybrids will complement the product range. The electrification strategy of the French company is to be applied above all in the area of light commercial vehicles (LCV): Renault wants to become the one with the widest range of electric LCVs among all manufacturers.
All new models will be connected. This means that they will be equipped with an automatic data connection, and Renault plans to offer digital information services for cars and drivers. Also the trend towards autonomous driving is no longer to drive past Renault – 15 models with more or less pronounced automatic control capabilities are expected to come on the market in the coming years. In addition, the company also wants to enter the field of mobility as a service. “This new plan will unleash our full potential to innovate and grow in a rapidly changing industry,” commented Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn.
