Renesas absorbs Intersil into new multimarket division
Renesas moved to acquire Intersil to further its ambitions in automotive electronics and to broaden its sales reach beyond its Japan-centric business.
Renesas plans to divide its general-purpose semiconductor business into two divisions; one that focuses on application specific solutions and a second that sells multimarket semiconductors to a broad set of customers. The latter is expected to benefit from integration with Intersil.
These two business units will be referred to as Industrial and Broad-based business units respectively. At the same time Renesas will continue to operate an automotive business unit.
The broad-based business unit starts operations on April 1, 2017. At the same time Renesas will establish a Supply Chain Management Unit and a China business unit as of July 1, 2017.
