The automotive industry is working intensively to meet the needs of an increasingly interconnected world to provide smarter, greener and more affordable vehicles. In addition, autonomous vehicles will be equipped with even more complex and comprehensive software based increasingly on artificial intelligence. Vehicle edge computing systems implemented in the vehicle play a key role in providing the extremely high computing power required, taking into account energy consumption, temperature, dimensions, safety and security requirements. In addition, a standardized, technical framework will be critical to share, reuse and gradually improve developments.

Renesas intends to contribute its R-Car chip family to the development of such vehicles. This product family is already used today in many driver assistance systems, ECUs and cockpit solutions and could thus contribute to the AVCC’s planned development of a framework for vehicle edge computing.

Founding members of the AVCC include Arm, Bosch, Continental, Denso, General Motors, Nvidia, NXP Semiconductors and Toyota.
