
Renesas Electronics has re-started operations after an earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale at Nakadori in Fukushima prefecture hit one of its chip making fabs.
There was no damage to the buildings, utility and manufacturing equipment of the Naka Factory in Ibaraki Prefecture, which is located near the epicenter and is a major producer of microcontrollers for industrial and automotive applications. The Naka fab suffered a major fire last year that hit global production.

While some equipment halted operation and are being restarted, the Naka Factory is maintaining its operations, sad the company.
Renesas says it has so far received no reports on the impact on Renesas’ overall supply chain including suppliers and partner companies from this earthquake.
