Renesas is demonstrating Level 3 and automated driving using its R-car processor alongside an AI accelerator from Hailo.
The demonstration of L3 and automated driving capabilities using the Hailo chip is a key step in providing AI acceleration in the chiplet-based ecosystem planned by Renesas.
- Renesas moves to chiplets for X5 automotive family
- Major Japanese push for automotive chiplets for 2028
- Hailo, Renesas team up for seamless transition from ADAS to automated driving
The demo is powered by the Renesas R-Car V4H Series processor which is streaming six 2MP cameras. The streams are analysed by the Hailo-8 AI accelerator which is running high-accuracy object detection on the video input.
The combination enables real-time processing with high accuracy, low latency & low power consumption for advanced automation features in mass-market vehicles. The chip offers up to 26 TOPS at a typical power consumption of 2.5 W
- NXP, Hailo team for automotive AI
- Hailo ports transformer AI to embedded chip
- Renesas tapes out spiking neural network chip
The demo follows a deal in 2022 between the two companies.
