Report details automotive AI opportunities and threats
V2M has published a report on the opportunities and threats for automotive suppliers to adopt machine learning and AI.
The report, Driving Innovation: The Imperative for Automotive Companies to Embrace AI, details emerging AI trends and the impact on automotive stakeholders, particularly in cybersecurity.
The presence of all kinds of artificial intelligence in the automotive software sector was limited in 2020, but forecasts suggest a 29,2% annual growth, says V2M. Based on current trends, it expects AI to surpass traditional automotive software by 2033.
The report recommends OEMS explore strategies to reduce Per-vehicle Hardware-AI Integration costs by creating economies of scale through partnerships with other OEMs. This will require breaking down domain silos within the development organization and centralizing decision-making power for AI and vehicle architecture to accelerate time to market for new AI integration definitions and sourcing decisions. They also need to prioritize cybersecurity measures to safeguard vehicle systems and data from cyber threats and breaches with the increasing integration of AI and connectivity features in vehicles.
AI for saving lives in automotive
Tier-1 and Tier-2 Suppliers need to collaborate on AI integration strategy closely with OEMs to co-create a shared vision, says V2M. This will require modernizing manufacturing processes by investing in automation, robotics, and additive manufacturing techniques to improve production efficiency, quality, and scalability and proactively identify niche opportunities within the automotive electronics market where expertise and capabilities align. They will also need to develop specialized software capabilities by adding advanced algorithms for functions such as functional safety, artificial intelligence, or cybersecurity to existing products.
The report also outlines key steps for all automotive players to effectively navigate the evolving landscape. These include strengthening AI and architecture capabilities through early engagement and experimentation and continuously assessing control points and adapt to changing dynamics. Strategic partnerships in emerging ecosystems will be key for driving innovation and companies need to prioritse talent development, cybersecurity, sustainability, and supply chain optimization.
“Our report underscores the critical need for automotive companies to embrace AI-driven innovation,” said Petr Bakulov, V2M Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “By adopting actionable strategies outlined in the report, companies can position themselves as leaders in the transformative automotive industry.”
