Report: Intel scales back plans for Leixlip
The new application althrough smaller would still be for a wafer fab with a total budget of $4 billion and that would create 3,000 jobs during construction and equipment installation, according to the Irish Times.
However, it is not yet clear whether Intel will implement the smaller plan. The parent company has yet to decide whether there is a need to build the plant at all and as has often been the case in the past the Irish site is in competition with other Intel locations, most notably Israel.
Intel employed about 5,200 staff in Ireland earlier this year but an undisclosed number of them were marked for redundancy mid-year as part of a global restructuring at Intel, the report said.
