Report: Memory module order pause due to Micron DRAM fab power outage
The DRAM fab is in Taoyuan, northern Taiwan, and the power outage may constrain the global DRAM bit supply, particularly to the server segment, Digitimes said, referencing industry sources.
As a result, the memory module makers are putting a temporary halt on taking orders and adopting a wait-and-see attitude. In a commodity market place such as DRAM where the average selling price is responds rapidly to supply and demand, parts of the supply chain frequently react on thin pretexts to allow the building or disposal of stockpiles.
Micron itself has not made mention of the power outage and rather is predicting a fourth quarter that will be better than previously expected.
Micron raised its revenue forecast for its first fiscal quarter, ending December 3, from between US$5.0 billion and US$5.4 billion to between US$5.70 billion and US$5.75 billion. That is an increase of 10 percent at the mid-point.
