Reports: ARM discloses roadmap performance in Taiwan

The revelations were made by John Ronco, general manager for embedded and automotive business at ARM.

ARM has two Cortex implementations lined up to use the 7nm and 5nm production nodes – Deimos and Hercules – as reported by eeNews Europe in August (ARM announces cores roadmap for PC processors).

According to reports Ronco said that the 7nm Deimos CPU core, to be released in 2019 will be 15 percent higher in performance than the current generation 10nm Cortex-A76 processor core launched in 2018. Meanwhile Hercules, to come in 2020 and migrate to 5nm will provide another 15 percent uplift.

Ronco also discussed the 7nm Cortex-A76AE designed to support automotive applications with the ability to operate a cluster of cores together or in a locked separate mode for additional security of safety functions. Reportedly Ronco added that further AE processors based on Cortex –A and Cortex-R microarchitecture would be launched in the future.

Ronco also touched on the Neoverse line of processors that ARM announced in October.

Neoverse is ARM’s attempt to demonstrate that it can offer processor cores that purpose designed for networking infrastructure applications.

ARM is scheduled to launch ‘Ares’ on 7nm in 2019, ‘Zeus’ on 7nm in 2020 and ‘Poseiden’ on 5nm in 2021. With each introduction, the performance is expected to increase by 30 percent, Ronco is reported as saying.
