In order to reach the goal of better OLEDs at lower prices, the researchers are investigating new soluble materials with specific focus on inexpensive production and high efficiency. These new printable materials make it possible to manufacture OLEDs with simpler and cheaper printing processes. Currently conventional OLEDs are still mainly being produced by expensive vacuum
processes.

Besides the University of Regensburg, the group comprises researchers from Cynora GmbH of Karlsruhe, a company focusing on materials and components of OLEDs, and Novaled AG, a process and materials expert company from Dresden. According Thomas Bauman, Managing Director of Cynora GmbH, the goal of the project is providing materials and methods that bring the product properties as well as the manufacturing processes to the level of the mass market. The University of Regensburg’s team, headed by professor Hartmut Yersin is contributing its expertise in materials development while Cynora will assume the task of developing the subsequent synthesis as well as the optimization of the materials. Novaled will provide the application of solution-based-processed, doped transport layers.

First results of the project cyCESH can be expected in 2016. The project is funded by the German federal research ministry (BMBF) with the amount of € 6.1 million.
