Resonant conversion boosts bandwidth of AC-DC power supply
Engineers at TDK-Lambda in the UK have developed a new phase-based technique for resonant power conversion in AC-DC power supplies.
The technique, granted a patent this week, uses a combination of two llops, one measuuring the resonant phase of the incoming voltage and the scond matching it to a target output phase. This phase mode control provides higher stability across a wider range of operating conditions. This enhances the output response to sudden load changes, with a faster and improved recovery. Using a digital controller enables a reduction in components of 40 percent.
The technique has been use din new modules for its 550 to 2000W TDK-Lambda branded QM series of AC-DC modular power supplies. The SA modules are available with 5V /15A, 12V /12.5A, 15V /10A and 24V /6.25A outputs. Thse have medical and industrial safety certifications to address a wide range of applications, including BF rated medical equipment, test and measurement, broadcast, communications and renewable energy applications. The QM series is certified to IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60601-1, ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1, IEC/EN 61010-1 and IEC/EN/
