RF signal analysis for car-to-car communications
Test and measurement system provider Rohde & Schwarz is to expand the functionality of its FSV and FSW signal and spectrum analysers to also support the IEEE 802.11p wireless standard. The respective options with the designations FSV-K91p and FSW-K91p are designed in particular for 812.11p-compliant signal analysis in V2x applications and Intelligent Transport Systems.
The signal and spectrum analysers are equipped with new software options for vehicular communications components, modules and systems. They perform spectrum measurements according to IEEE 802.11p and analyse the modulation quality of these signals. Pre-defined spectrum masks can be used to verify that the transmitted signal complies to the requirements of ETSI and FCC. While the FSW is designed for deployment in development environment, with the FSV the vendor aims at development and production environments equally.
The IEEE 802.11p wireless standard is used for communications between vehicles as well as between vehicles and the infrastructure — examples are traffic lights, traffic management systems and dynamic road signs. Operatimng in the licensed ITS band between 5.85 and 5.925 GHz, the standard regulates wireless access in vehicular environments and specifies stringent requirements in terms of spectral purity and permissible adjacent channel power.
