RISC-V headed for mainstream, says Semico
Semico’s report: “RISC-V market analysis: The new kid on the block” provides the forecast that across all market segments – computer, consumer, communications, transportation, industrial and other – the market will enjoy compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 146.2 percent over the period 2018 to 2025.
It also indicates that RISC-V will do best in the industrial sector which will be responsible for more than half of the 2025 total.

As part of the research Semico evaluated 25 applications within five major end market sectors. It also broke down deployment into four product categories varying from a “soft implementation” on FPGA to advanced high performance SoCs.
The highest growth area is communications in general and high-performance multi-core SoCs in particular.

“Based on the already sizeable adoption of RISC-V, we forecast that the market will consume a total of 62.4 billion RISC-V cores by 2025, signalling that RISC-V is on the fast track to mainstream adoption,” said Jim Feldhan, president of Semico Research, in statement issued by the RISC-V Foundation.
