Rogue Valley selects Florida for MEMS wafer fab
Pure-play MEMS foundry Rogue Valley Microdevices Inc. (Medford, Oregon) is planning to site its second wafer fab in Palm Bay, Florida.
The company has announced the acquisition of a 50,000-square-foot commercial building at 2301 Commerce Drive, Palm Bay, Florida to serve as its second microfabrication facility. The fab will be used to make MEMS and sensors. It is expected to employ about 75 people and begin production in 2025.
The company is budgeting for a US$30 million capex. the fab will be equipped to run wafers of 200mm and 300mm diameter with a manufacturing capacity of 21,000 wafer starts per month.
“For the last two decades, Rogue Valley Microdevices has played a critical role in the MEMS and sensor ecosystem,” said Jessica Gomez, founder and CEO of Rogue Valley Microdevices, in a statement. “As we continue to build efficiencies and add capabilities in Medford, our expansion to Palm Bay will alleviate capacity constraints. Our goal as a manufacturing partner is to provide a wide variety of services, helping our customers to expedite the commercialization of their technology, and continuing to support them as they scale to meet market demand.”
