Romania set to enter fast growing LED production market
LED manufacturing is a fast-growing market with high potential for innovative technologies, Fraunhofer IPA said. Production conditions including cleanroom requirements are comparable to semiconductor production. The project includes planning of the cleanroom as well as the development of an overall concept for manufacturing equipment, material flow and production processes. The researchers face some specific challenges – among others, because a large part of the cleanroom facilities will be implemented in the cellar of the building; for this reasons the Fraunhofer researchers had to take into account a high humidity. The project also includes developing several different strategies for a research production line. The IPA researchers intend to implement this line in a way that it facilitates adaption to the production line
The project has a volume of 14 million Euros, of which 9 million are paid by Romania’s National Board for Scientific Research ANCS. When this article was published, Fraunhofer IPA was not available to elaborate on project partners and customers in Romania. The devices to be produced will aim at the market for general lighting.
