The battery modules and battery packs manufactured by the JV will be equipped with intelligent control systems that provide outstanding performance and service life through their own algorithms. In addition, the company’s own heat management system allows active and passive cooling. The battery packs will complement BorgWarner’s existing product portfolio for hybrid and electric vehicles, which includes electric motors, power electronics, high-voltage battery heaters, the E axis iDM, on-board battery chargers (OBC) and more.

The joint venture will encompass the mobility segment of the battery cell business and will initially focus on sports cars and passenger cars. BorgWarner will also hold a 20 percent stake in Romeo Power Technology and two seats on the Supervisory Board. The equity investment and the joint venture are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2019, subject to the fulfilment of the usual closing conditions.
