RS Components adds high-spec, low-cost oscilloscope
The instrument costs less than the popular TBS2000, but offers a higher specification. It features up to 200MHz bandwidth, a 2 Gsample/s sample rate, and a lower-noise analogue front end.
The TBS2000B features bandwidth options of 200MHz, 100MHz and 70MHz. Field upgrades are possible to change the scope from lower to higher bandwidths. There are models that have two or four analogue channels, with sampling rates of 2 Gsample/s over two channels or 1 Gsample/s over four channels. The device features a record length of 5 million points.
The oscilloscope has a default sample mode, as well as a “peak detect” mode that can identify spikes. An “average” mode assists in the reduction of noise for repetitive signals. Signals, measurement results and menu information are displayed on the clear 9-inch WVGA colour display, which has 15 horizontal divisions to allow designs to be debugged and validated quickly.
The TBS2000B offers 32 automated measurements, which can be selected from a single screen. The measurements are colour coded by source and displayed on a transparent background so that they do not obscure waveforms.
One new feature in the TBS2000B is on-waveform cursor readouts. A zoom function allows fast panning through a record and zooming in for signal details. The “search and mark” feature allows events in the acquired waveform to be identified and marked throughout the entire acquisition. A dedicated front panel based FFT button quickens waveform analysis.
Tektronix’s TekVPI probe interface was developed to support both active voltage and current probes — with automatic scaling and units — as well as passive BNC probes. Data such as error conditions are passed directly to the oscilloscope for processing, eliminating manual offsetting and degaussing. Front and rear USB 2.0 and an Ethernet port allow quick, easy data storage, PC and network connections. The TBS2000B also has WiFi capability.
