Following the launch of the RS 3D CAD model library in 2010 there has been in excess of 25,000 model downloads to-date. Visitors to the RS website can identify where a 3D CAD model is available for a product through a 3D flag in search. A single click to the product page then reveals a rotating 3D model of the part with links to "classic" images to show details of colour or surface finish. Registered users can download the model from the database, which is converted by RS into the file format selected by the user depending on their CAD package. The service will be expanded further in the coming months when RS adds more CAD formats.

RS has partnered with TraceParts, a leading digital engineering 3D content supplier to provide a comprehensive library unmatched in the industry. Each model is automatically displayed by an embedded viewer, compatible with all standard Java-enabled web browsers without the need to download or install additional software.
