Ruggedized system offers multiple advanced I/O in a smaller form factor
COBALT offers a complete, rugged small form factor system that uses the company’s hardened COM Express Computer-on-Modules (COMs) and optimizes the latest Intel x86 architecture. It provides additional tightly-coupled mezzanine features, a ruggedized compact carrier board and System Interface Board (SIB) that give customers increased I/O options to meet specific edge application requirements. This proven modular and flexible platform matches ongoing development demands in applications such as rail transportation, military (ground, ship, avionics, unmanned), commercial avionics, oil & gas, outdoor communications or any where small high-compute platforms are required.
Meeting severe environment operational demands in many industries, Kontron designed the IP67 chassis to operate reliably in a multitude of conditions including extreme temperatures, shock, vibration and EMI. Powering the COBALT base system is a 3rd generation Intel dual core-based COM Express Type 6 module that features ECC, rapid shutdown design, and 100% extended temp screening with the option of removable or fixed SSDs and/or fixed mSATA storage. Windows, Linux and VxWorks operating system and software support packages are also available. The carrier board design maximizes the system’s capabilities while minimizing its overall size and meeting higher temperature and shock and vibration conditions.
COBALT is a fanless, fully enclosed system that provides efficient thermal management in a small 5.5 x 8.5 x 3.5-inch (139.7 x 215.89 x 88.89 mm) form factor weighing less than 5.5 pounds (2.5 kg).
Kontron will continue to release application-specific profiles of its next-generation COBALT platform through 2014 and can readily support custom configured solutions as well.
