Safety torque sensor improves safety for cobots
The ring-shaped safety torque sensor, which intended to be integrated into cobot joints, meets safety requirements up to ISO13849 Category 4 PL e thanks to two electrically segregated channels with no common cause failure.
Additional benefits of the safety torque sensor include:
Low susceptibility to cross loads: The sensor has been developed to be assembled on harmonic drive gearboxes that can result in a highly complex stress state. The design of the sensor has been optimised to reduce axial, radial load and tilting moment susceptibility providing increased accuracy.
Customizable mechanical interface: The low-profile sensor’s height is under 20mm, but can be the size and sensing range can be adapted to suit the application. It is possible to use the sensor as a sealing wall to seal a gearbox, while maintaining high overload capability.
Digital I2C electrical interface: The I2C serial interface communicates at 400kHz for easy integration. Other electrical interfaces may be available on request.
Microfused technology: Microfused technology eliminates the problems associated with age-sensitive organic epoxies used in traditional load cell designs, providing a longer operational life and no stability issues from ageing resin. Instead, strain gauges are bonded to the mechanical part using proven microfused technology.
