The Moscow subsidiary aims to focus on the fast-growing transportation, energy storage, infrastructure and telecom sectors.

"Saft is building a solid reputation in this region, thanks to the high performance, reliability, safety and sustainability of our products in railway, aviation, oil & gas and space applications," explained David Masgrangeas, General Manager of OOO Saft in Moscow. "Opening this new Saft subsidiary in Moscow provides a base for our continued development and an active presence alongside our strategic customers.

"Saft’s advanced battery technology is well suited to meeting the particular challenges of our customers here as it provides the required high performance, long life and optimized total cost of ownership, with low maintenance, even in extreme temperatures that can fall as low as minus 50°C. As a leading battery systems and equipment supplier, we believe that our development and localization strategy in Russia provides exciting opportunities to support new projects and investment programs."

OOO Saft’s Moscow sales and support office will provide facilities for customers to discuss localized innovation and engineering projects and obtain after-sales service support. These are likely to be expanded in a later phase with production facilities for state-of-the-art, nickel-based, rechargeable battery systems.

Initially, OOO Saft will focus on rail applications, including locomotives, metros, trams, passenger coaches and regional trains. Saft is already well established in this market, with major contracts including the supply of specialized rail batteries to support emergency backup applications on board the Siemens Desiro RUS ‘Lastochka’ regional electric trains that will transport spectators and athletes to and from the Sochi Olympic Winter Games in 2014.

OOO Saft will also support existing customers in telecom, aerospace (aircraft and satellites), and oil and gas (drilling, geophysical prospecting, pipeline inspection and offshore platforms).
