The contract covers the development and manufacture of more than 40 000 Li-ion battery systems. The company will provide the energy which will power the FELIN infrared night vision equipment, the infrared binoculars, the radio systems, man‐machine interface equipment, the GPS and the osteophonic
systems.

The equipment for Soldier of the Future systems needs long-life, highly reliable batteries that are easy to use in the field.

To meet these needs, Saft developed two formats of Li-ion batteries which optimise weight, have at least 24 hours life, are modular, safe and reliable to use, have integrated electronics for monitoring the state of charge of the battery and enable communication with the man-machine interface equipment.
