
The octacore chip is implemented in 10nm FinFET manufacturing process technology and is already in production Samsung said.
The 10nm FinFET process provides up to 27 percent higher performance while consuming 40 percent less power when compared to 14nm FinFET process, Samsung said.
The chip has four second generation Samsung proprietary cores and four Cortex-A53 cores. The Exynos 9 Series 8895 integrates a gigabit LTE modem that supports five carrier aggregation (5CA), which results in superior support for bursty applications. So the chip supports a 1Gbps (Cat. 16) downlink with 5CA and 150Mbps (Cat. 13) uplink with CA.
The graphics is rendered by ARM’s Mali-G71 GPU. A multi-format codec (MFC) supports video recording and playback at 4K UHD resolution and 120fps using HEVC (H.265), H.264 (AVC) and VP9.
The chip has a separate processing unit for security – whether proprietary or licensed is not disclosed – that comes with a hardware cryptographic accelerator. And there is a vision processing unit (VPU) that can recognize items and movement for video tracking, panaromic image processing and machine vision applications.
The processor supports 28-megapixel back and front cameras and a dual camera with 28- and 16-megapixel image sensors in harness.
No mention is made of WiFi or Bluetooth so it would appear that has been partitioned off the Exynos 9.
