The company disclosed the plans in a filing of documents to the local regulator, according to a TechCrunch report. The factory will make displays for smartphones and a wide-range of other electronics devices the documents indicate. Samsung has set aside land within its existing factory site in Noida.

Samsung was the largest mobile phone supplier in the Indian market but has been overtaken by Chinese vendor Xiaomi, TechCrunch said.

Putting a manufacturing plant in Indian will help Samsung increase its local production of smartphone components and provide access to tax benefits helping it to compete with Chinese smartphone vendors.
