Presenting the new display, Samsung’s visual display business unit president Han Jong-hee said MicroLED TVs would become the future of displays, arguing that while the 75-inch MicroLED screen was one-fourth of that of the 146-inch “The Wall” presented last year, the LED pixels had shrunk to one-15th the size of their predecessors. The MicroLED TVs are modular in essence, built of conjoined smaller panels to pack up millions of microscopic red, green and blue LED chips.
Talking about modularity, Jong-hee noted that simply adding new modules to the 75-inch screen, the company could scale the screen size to 80 or 90-inches or even larger, with no limitations in size, increasing resolution from 4K to 5K, 6.5K, 10K and possibly more.

As well as this new product, Samsung announced a partnership with Apple to bring Apple’s iTunes app and use AirPlay 2 streaming service to the new MicroLED screen. The company expects its “open partnership strategy” will offer consumers a better user experience. With Apple’s iTunes Movies and TV Shows app on Samsung TVs, Samsung customers can access their existing iTunes library and browse the iTunes Store to buy or rent movies and dramas.
The AirPlay 2 feature allows users to play videos, photos, music and podcasts from their Apple devices directly to the new TVs.
