Samsung reveals LED components for advanced mobile devices
To be showcased at the upcoming Mobile World Congress to be held in Barcelona, Spain, February 24-27, 2014, Samsung’s new LEDs for mobile devices include two reflector-integrated flash LED packages – the 3432 1.8t (FH341A) and 3432 1.4t (FH341B), plus a flip-chip flash LED 2016 (FH201A), as well as two side-view LEDs – the 3810 0.6t (MS062F) and 3810 0.8t (MS082F).
Samsung says the company will start mass producing the mobile-market LEDs in March 2014. The products will begin appearing in the open market in the second quarter of 2014.
To achieve better picture quality high-quality smartphone cameras require a wider FOV (Field of View) angle and Samsung’s new reflector-integrated flash LEDs are designed to maximize flexibility by providing a wide FOV within a small space through the integration of a light source, a lead frame, and a reflector with its own optics and diffusion features.
Samsung’s new reflector-integrated flash LED – the 3432 1.8t (FH341A) – is claimed to deliver more than 165 lux at 1 A and a minimum CRI (Color Rendering Index) of 80, assuring quality photos in daylight and at night. The 3432 1.8t will be used in the next Galaxy smartphone, which is expected to be introduced later this month.
The 3432 1.4t (FH341B) reflector-integrated flash LED is designed for mobile OEMs seeking extra-slim LED solutions. The 3432 1.4t package includes a reflector and is only 1.4 mm thick, a thickness ideal for smartphones and tablets thinner than 7 mm. In addition, it provides a minimum illuminance level of 165 lux.
Samsung’s new standard flash LED 2016 (FH201A) applies Samsung’s proprietary cell-film phosphor technology to flip-chip packages, which applies a thin film of phosphor to each package. Providing exceptional design flexibility, Samsung’s 2016 offers 220 lm of light output and improves color deviation by approximately 40 percent compared to packages using Samsung’s previous technology that dispensed phosphor on each chip. This more affordable LED solution also offers a high level of color qualitys. By introducing the company’ first 2016-sized flash LED package, Samsung has further strengthened its mobile LED component line-up.
Other new LED packages for mobile applications on show at the Mobile World Congress include Samsung’s Side View LEDs – 3810 0.6t (MS062F) and 3810 0.8t (MS082F), which feature high color reproducibility, thanks to their high brightness levels. Samsung’s Side View LED packages are also power-efficient, operating on less than 2.9 volts.
Samsung’s 3810 0.6t provides 3.1cd, while coming in at a mere 0.6mm in z-height – ideal for slim smartphones and tablets. The 3810 0.8t offers more luminous intensity at 3.2cd, with a 0.8mm thickness, making it suitable for tablet and notebook PCs.
