Samsung starts production at world’s biggest fab
According to reports Samsung Electronics has earmarked 15.6 trillion won (about $13.5 billion) over the past two years and coming years to build out Pyeongtaek’s line 1.
The company has announced it now plans to spend another 14.4 trillion won (about $12.5 billion) to expand its semiconductor production capacity there with a Pyeongtaek line Samsung also plans to invest 6 trillion won (about $5.2 billion) in its Hwaseong, South Korea, site for a semiconductor fabrication line to accommodate Extreme Ultra Violet (EUV) equipment.
In addition Samsung plans to construct a second fab module in Xi’an, China Samsung’s first semiconductor fabrication line in Xi’an was constructed in 2014 and is presently in full operation.
Samsung said the development of the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence, big data and automotive technologies is increasing demand for components and that with these investments Samsung aimed to strengthen its manufacturing capability to meet the needs and accelerate the development of the IT industry.
