Sany signs Ambarella for 2025 self-driving construction vehicles
Chinese commercial vehicle developer Sany is to use a 5nm AI chip from Ambarella in the US for self-driving construction vehicles in 2025.
The strategic cooperation with Sany will focus on self-driving systems for the global market using the Ambarella CV3-AD family of automotive AI domain controller systems-on-chip (SoCs).
These will be used in the next-generation Sany commercial vehicles and special-purpose vehicles. The company makes trucks, excavators, cranes and mining vehicles.

At the same time, both parties will collaborate on the joint development of high-performance and highly integrated automated driving solutions, as well as jointly promoting them in the market, with the goal of achieving start-of-production for the first collaborative vehicle model by calendar year 2025.
Sany has a “globalization, digitalization and decarbonization” strategy, as part of the fourth industrial revolution and the third energy revolution says Xiang Wenbo, rotating chairman of the group.
The Ambarella CV2 SoC family is based on 10nm manufacturing process technology and has shipped over 20 million units. The CV3-AD family, based on a 5nm automotive-grade process, can provide industry-leading AI processing performance. This supports birds-eye-view (BEV) transformer neural networks, which enable precise perception and fusion without high-precision maps, city navigation on autopilot (NOA), planning, control and other autonomous driving functions.
