Schaeffler expands e-mobility footprint through acquisition
Compact Dynamics is subsidiary of power electronics component vendor Semikron GmbH and a long-standing development partner of mechatronics company Schaeffler. Among other, Compact Dynamics developed the electric powertrain for the Audi ABT Scheffler Formula E racing stable. By acquiring this majority shareholding and securing an option for the acquisition of the remaining shares mid-2018, Schaeffler says it is obtaining essential expertise for the development and production of its own electric motors for automobile applications. The transaction is scheduled to be completed in Q1, 2017.
By the same token, Schaeffler and Semikron have agreed a cooperation for the development of power electronics systems and the integration of power electronics components. “In conjunction with the team from Compact Dynamics, Schaeffler will use the expertise proven in motor sport and small volume production to expand its capabilities in the volume production of electric drives”, explained Schaeffler AG’s Chief Technology Officer Peter Gutzmer.
