S8 can be used as a bridge managing any raw NAND flash and interfacing to host CPU’s using SD or MMC interfaces. Together with Hyperstone’s hyReliability firmware, it provides not only standard FTL and wear levelling but also endurance and data retention management, as well as fail-safe features mandatory for industrial or automotive applications.

The company claims read/write performances of up to 90 MB/s and host transfer rates of up to 104 MB/s. The controller is compliant with Toggle DDR or ONFI 2.3 Flash interfaces but also compatible to all legacy flash interfaces.

In terms of firmware algorithms a dynamic data refresh has been developed that ensures data retention for static data even, in extreme environmental conditions. Tying the possibly strongest 96-Bit BCH ECC to Hyperstone’s proven hyReliability firmware architecture is ensuring the highest level of endurance and reliability.

Additionally 16 GPIOs, SDIO 3.0, and ISO 7816 interfaces as well as an on-the-fly AES encryption are offered, targeting value added memory cards or storage sub-systems not only in the industrial but also in the field of security, identification or smart metering.
