By providing these open APIs and the related documentation, Philips intends to strengthen the developer’s community. The SDK runs under iOS. It is capable of communication with a range of external devices to enable innovative apps.
Hue as well as the SDK make extensive use of the Zigbee communications technology. This enables the Hue luminaires to exchange data not only with other luminaires but also with other Zigbee nodes, such as motion sensors or thermostats. Software can be updated automatically via the wireless network.
