Sensor libraries enable IoT solutions at chip level
Besides process technologies, ams’ Full Service Foundry business division offers broad range of IP, support during product qualification and product roll-out as well as assistance in the management of the entire value chain. The company’s offering includes a process design kit that helps design engineers to implement highly complex analog / mixed signal products for sensing and measurement applications like environmental sensors, infrastructure and energy management, industrial automation, wearables, transport, and medical technology. With its process development platform, ams enables designers active in novel application fields such as IoT, wearables, industrie 4.0 or smart cities to drive innovation. These sensor and actuator solutions open the door to a wealth of innovative products and enable enterprises to realise new business models.
As an example, among ams offerings are high-voltage CMOS processes that enable the development of driver ICs and MEMS-based circuits. Fast low-noise sensor interfaces can be implemented by means of SiGe-BiCMOS process technologies. For battery-operated devices such as pacemakers, the offering includes circuit libraries with extremely low leakage currents that greatly contribute to extend the battery lifetime. WLCSP packages as well as 3D IC interconnect technologies based on ams proprietary through-silicon via technology enable a broad range of monolithic and heterogeneous integrated system-on-chip (Soc) and system-in-package (SiP) solutions.
With these libraries and technologies, ams helps users to minimise their development risks, advertises Markus Wuchse, general manager of ams’ Full Service Foundry business. “In addition, they can significantly reduce their time-to-market”, he said.
